Storing your pen
In the fridge, at 2 to 8°C, say the Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic leaflets; Zepbound’s label also allows its KwikPen at room temperature, up to 30°C, for up to 30 days. All four say never freeze it, or use a pen that has been frozen. Wegovy and Ozempic add keep it from the cooling element, with the cap on.

Where to keep each pen before it’s started, and what each says about freezing, quoted as written. How long a started one keeps is in how long a pen lasts.

Also in the leaflets
Not by the cooling element
Before first use, Wegovy and Ozempic say keep pens in the fridge, away from the cooling element, and never frozen.
Cap on
Wegovy’s and Ozempic’s leaflets both say keep the pen cap on, in order to protect the medicine inside from light.
Cloudy or discoloured
Before use, Mounjaro’s leaflet says don’t use it if the medicine is cloudy, discoloured or has any particles in it.
Not in the bin
Not down the sink or in household waste: the UK leaflets say ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines.
Questions
What if my pen was frozen?
All four say don’t use it. Zepbound’s label adds, for its single-dose pen, throw the pen away and use a new pen.
Can a pen be out of the fridge once I’ve started it?
Yes, within each brand’s limit. Wegovy and Ozempic say up to 6 weeks below 30°C or in the fridge; Mounjaro says unrefrigerated, not above 30°C, for up to 30 days after first use; Zepbound’s KwikPen, a total of 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or 4 weekly doses, whichever comes first.
Do I need to warm it up before injecting?
Zepbound’s label says, for its single-dose pen, it is not necessary to warm the pen to room temperature. The other leaflets don’t say.
